From Friday 1 – Sunday 3 July 2016,Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) and the AustralianCentre for the Moving Image (ACMI) will be presenting the2016 Screen Futures Summit & Youth Media Festival, athree-day international summit in Melbourne. Screen Futureswill bring together media educators at all levels (primary,secondary and tertiary) and media producers – bothprofessional and amateur – from around the world toilluminate and discuss the future of the screen.
The summit program will be structuredaround three related themes: Education, Innovation andIndustry. It will offer lectures, screenings andpresentations by leaders in the fields.
ATOM and its partners are currentlycalling for abstracts for theIndustry and Innovationprogram strands from presenters with an interest in thepast, present and future of the screen.
Suggested topics for papers in these twostrands include (but are by no means limited to):
- The future of Australianbroadcast television and children’s live-actioncontent
- The social and creativeimpact of networked media
- Participatory culture
- Cultural identity andrepresentation on and behind the screen
- New screen technology
- Innovations in mediaproduction, distribution and consumption practices
- The growth of nicheindustries in Australia (games, visual effects,animation)
- Content ownership andshifting audiences.

Full papers due:Midday AEST, Monday 2 May 2016
Papers may also be published in one ofATOM’s two print journals, Metro orScreen Education. Both publications are listed withthe ARC for research purposes, and contributors may requesttheir papers be peer-reviewed. Standard ATOM pay rates willapply to any papers selected for publication.
